How to choose the right rose for your garden
At Natorp’s Nursery, we grow one hundred fifty-five types of roses. The great news the roses are grown here on the nursery in Cincinnati’s soil and climate. Roses are prized in the garden for their elegance and many incredible fragrances. Our rose growers carefully selected each rose for our collection to provide gardeners with the best selection for our area.
While Natorp’s Rose Collection features great roses that we recommend, we encourage you to do your research or reach horticulturalists if you need help finding the right rose for your garden. Besides aesthetics, you want to consider the amount of time available for any maintenance required by the plant. The great news with so many choices, there is a perfect rose for every garden, including container gardens.
What type of roses should you add to your garden?
While Floribunda, Hybrid Tea, and Grandfloribunda have traditionally been the most popular, they also require some maintenance. If you are a low-maintenance gardener, you may want to consider the new generation of shrub roses like the KnockOut Rose that provide blooms without constant supervision.
When planning your rose garden, here are some questions to ask before purchasing your rose:
- What type Floribunda, Hybrid Tea, Grandiflora, and Shrub, etc?
- Are you interested in a climber? Climbers tend to repeat-flower,
- Would you prefer a groundcover?
- What is the space requirement?
- What is your personal color preference?
- Are you looking for fragrance in your garden?
Don’t forget any garden can include roses, thanks to container gardening. While several varieties will grow wonderfully in containers, the smaller types tend to be more successful.
