Annabelle Hydrangea
How do you bring the charm of the cottage garden to your home?
We asked one of Natorp’s horticulturalists, Sherrie Wilson for her tips for achieving the cottage garden look and she discussed her favorite cottage garden plant the Annabelle Hydrangea.
What plant would you recommend for starting a Cottage Garden?
If you are looking to create the informal and natural feel of a cottage garden, you want to start with a plant that brings a woodsy yet traditional appeal. The ‘Annabelle Hydrangea’ is a perfect choice as a statement plant that will add immediate impact to the garden.
The Hydrangea ‘Annabelle’, is a loosely branched hydrangea. It has large globe-shaped summer flowers. The blooms open apple green, then mature to white and then, a soft brown. Annabelle is great as an accent in beds, borders, and foundation plantings in your garden. It has a natural look and grows 4 to 6 feet tall with showy white flowers that appear through mid-summer.
‘Annabelle’ is perfect for creating the Cottage Garden look. Also, the flowers are great for cutting and using fresh or dried in your floral arrangements.
