Whether you’re planting your first rose or adding to your collection, follow these simple steps for healthy plants and nonstop color.
Sun = More Flowers
- 6–8 hours of full sun daily
- Plant in a spot with good airflow
Water Deeply
- Water at the base (not the leaves)
- Morning is best
- If the soil is dry 2–3” down, it’s time to water
Feed for Bigger Blooms
- Use a rose or flower fertilizer
- Feed regularly during growing season
- Follow label directions
Prune for Performance
- To deadhead a rose, remove the faded bloom by cutting the stem back to the first or second set of five leaves.
- Remove dead or weak stems
- Trim crossing branches
- Shape in late winter or early spring
Keep Them Thriving
- Add mulch to retain moisture
- Deadhead spent blooms for more flowers
- Check leaves regularly
