Once you have planted your new tree, it is time to mulch. It is important to get your newly planted tree off to good start and that includes how you apply mulch around your tree. Natorp’s garden expert, Ron Wilson is sharing his tree care tips on the correct way to mulch your new trees.
The Right Way to Mulch Around Your Tree
- Once you have finished planting, you should place one to three inches of good quality mulch on top of the planting area and on top of the root ball.
- You want to make sure that the mulch is not against the trunk of the tree.
- The mulch area should resemble a doughnut around the plant.

Mulch plays an important role in keeping your tree roots cooler, suppresses weeds, and helps maintain even soil moisture and it looks good!
