How many mints make a mint “medley”? Well, at Natorp’s, we have classic peppermint and spearmint, along with, take a breath here….chocolate, lemon, pineapple, apple, Mojito, lime, grapefruit and orange. But that’s not the whole list. Stop by our outlet store and see (and feel free to pick a sprig and sniff and taste) for yourself!
Mints will take over anywhere they’re planted. I’ve told you this before but it’s worth telling again. Keep mints in a container and you, and they, will be happy. Easy to grow in both sun and dappled shade, mints are great for perking up drinks.
HIBISCUS MINT MARGARITAS
Here’s a favorite for all those showers coming up in June,
I like to garnish these with mint leaves and a hibiscus petal.
1-1/2 cups boiling water
4 hibiscus tea bags
1 cup sugar or equivalent substitute
6 sprigs mint, 2-3” each – I like using lime mint, but any will do
2 cups tequila
1/2 cup orange liqueur
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
Crushed ice and club soda
Pour boiling water over tea bags; stir in sugar and mint. Cover and steep 20 minutes. Discard tea bags and mint. Cool completely.
Stir together the tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice along with the tea. Pour over crushed ice in 8 oz. glasses and top with a splash of club soda.
Tip from Rita’s kitchen:
Mint is high in antioxidants which may help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms. The menthol in mint helps break up phlegm and mucus. Mint helps with digestion and indigestion.
Mint contains fiber, and spearmint has vitamin A which helps support a healthy immune and eyes.
