Natural Bug Killers

“Think Green”…the buzz words in the garden for 2008.  So today, let’s take a look at a few ‘natural’ bug and weed controls you’ll be finding on your local garden stores shelves this year.

Now here are 3 bug killers that have been around for quite some time:

Insecticidal Soap…actually made from Potassium fatty acids…natural, environmentally friendly, can be used on fruiting plants, veggies, flowers, etc…and does a pretty good job as a contact killer of many types of bugs.

Horticultural Oil…a parafinic oil that can be used as a dormant or growing season spray…again natural, environmentally safe…can be used on a wide array of plants including fruits and veggies, trees and shrubs…and good control of some of the harder to kill insects.

Bt…this is actually a bacteria…safe to pets and humans and the environment…one of the best controls for most caterpillars…and won’t harm beneficial bugs!

New to the market…Espoma’s Insect Control, made from natural pyrethrins and canola oil…this one kills all stages of insects and can be used up to day of harvest in the garden.

And here’s Espoma’s 4 in 1 Weed Control, made from soaps of fatty acids…is a non selective weed, grass, moss and algae killer, as well as preventing re growth for up to 6 weeks…all natural product!

And here is the only USDA Certified Organic Pesticides in the world…made by Pharm Solutions Inc.…and they include a wide array of bug killers, each one made differently from products like cottonseed oil, potassium bicarbonate, garlic extracts, cinnamon oil, vanillin oil, peppermint oil, and rosemary oil.

Again, before you use any of these products, make sure you know exactly what you’re spraying for and whether spraying is actually needed, and always read the label before spraying.
