We’re here at the 2008
Flower Show, and I have to say that this year’s gardens probably have the
largest and best display of different types of plants, than I have ever seen
at this show.
From tropicals, to
annuals, to perennials, the specimen trees and shrubs, Bonsais included, I
just don’t recall ever seeing so many different types of plants used in each
of the gardens. When you stop at the individual gardens, there are so many
plants to see, it definitely takes longer to work your way thru the gardens
and take in all the great plants.
By the way, did I
mention roses? Oh yes, you’ll also find plenty of roses used in this years
gardens, especially in the Delhi Garden, appropriately named ‘The Dream Rose
Garden’.
Now, as you look around
this rose garden, you can’t help but notice the white flowering trees…that’s
Serviceberry…one you should consider for a smaller to mid sized landscape
tree in your landscape…but you’ll also find a show of many different
selections of roses, and as you get with roses, it’s a beautiful sight, and
wonderful scent as well. But as you look at this rose garden, you’ll also
notice the mass planting of one rose in particular…this beautiful
Grandiflora rose, with its bi-tone colors and great dark green foliage. The
name of this rose…’Dream Come True’…and we are proud to say was bred and
developed right here in Cincinnati Ohio by horticulturist and rosarian Dr.
John
Pottschmidt.
Dream Come True is one
of the 2008 AARS Award winning roses, and is one of the few roses bred by an
individual, to meet the high standards of the AARS and become a winning
rose. Beautiful flowers (which will keep going all season long), great
foliage, shows great disease resistance, and if it was developed here in
Cincinnati, you know it has to be a tough rose!
Dr. Pottschmidt’s rose,
Dream Come True, is now available at your local garden stores, ready to be
planted and enjoyed in your landscape. Great job, Doc! |
