It’s a dreary winter
day, so I’m headed to the florist. Want to know why ... because they have a
cure to make me feel better and get rid of the winter blues.
The cure ... flowers …
colorful flowers and lots of them. And according to a recent behavioral
study conducted at Harvard University, flowers play a very important role in
our well being, both in the home and in the business.
So what were the
research findings?
-Flowers feed
compassion. Study participants who lived with flowers for less than a week
felt an increase in feelings of compassion for others.
-Flowers chase away
anxieties, worries and blues at home. People in the study felt less
negative after being around flowers for less than a couple days.
-People can feel the
power of flowers. Participants in the study made sure the flowers were
where they could see them the most, especially first thing in the morning.
-And the study showed
that living with flowers helped to provide boosts of energy, happiness and
enthusiasm at work. Having flowers at home had a positive carry over impact
on people’s moods at their place of employment. They were more likely to
feel happier and have more enthusiasm and energy at work, when they had
flowers at their home, and felt even better when they also had flowers at
work.
So, now you know why the
folks who work at a florist are always smiling, enjoy what they do, and
always seem so stress-free and relaxed. Okay, with exception to
