Alternatives for Valentines Day

Valentines Day is right around the corner, and if you’re looking for alternatives to cut flowers for your sweetie, why not try something living that flowers as well?

Check with your local garden store or florist, and I’m sure you’ll find some nice foliage plants that with a little bow around the pot will make the perfect Valentines Day present, that keeps on giving for years to come, indoors.

Or check out combination planters of both foliage plants and flowering plants as well, which down the road can be divided and replanted so you’ll have several plants that can be grown indoors.

And if you’re looking for indoor flowering plants for Valentine’s Day, 2 of my favorites are African Violets and Miniature Roses.

African Violets are probably one of the easiest indoor flowering plants to grow, and they come in a multitude of colors.  Give them a bright window or florescent lighting, and they’re good to go for years of wonderful indoor flowers.

And I love miniature roses indoors.  Again, many colors to choose, these are a bit pickier indoors and need a really sunny window, but again, will flower for you all winter long, indoors.

By the way, when late spring gets here, you can plant your miniature rose outdoors and it will grow just like the other roses, in your garden, and keep coming back, year after year.
