As the temperatures
start to cool down, that means it’s time to bring those tropical plants back
inside for the winter. Here are a few steps you may want to take before
bringing them into the house:
1.) Place the tropical
plants in a shady area outside for 10 days or so to begin adjusting to lower
light conditions was back inside the house.
2.) During this time,
look for any pests on the plant. You may want to give it a spray or two of
insecticidal soap.
3.) Just before bringing
the plant indoors, inspect for pests on the foliage as well as in the soil
and pot. Slide the plant out of the pot and inspect for hitchhiking
critters. Another way is to fill a tub with water and submerse the plant
and pot in the water. If there are any critters, they’ll come floating to
the top.
4.) Hose of the plant if
possible, and give it one last spray with insecticidal soaps before bringing
it inside.
5.) Place your plant in
a well lit area, and do expect some leave drop until it adjusts to being
indoors. Watch for any outbreaks of insects (keep the insecticidal soaps on
hand just in case), and cut back on the watering, as they won’t use as much
water during the winter, while growing indoors. |
