$10,000 Landscape Makeover Final Look

Last March and April, Local 12, Homeworx, and Natorp Landscape had a contest to give away a $10,000 landscape makeover.  The winner was the Sherritt Residence in Montgomery.  Well, the project has been completed for about 2 months now, so I thought you might like to see how it turned out.

Here’s the new landscape…quite a difference from the way it looked with the lack of plantings and just a small landscape bed cut across the front of the home, wouldn’t you say?  Now some of the interesting things done to help make this new landscape work…

-Included adding this retaining wall where the grade of the yard fell away from the foundation.  So not only did this wall bring the level back up, it was also tied in to the rest of the landscape, which also added a little height, some depth, and the look of stone across the front of the home.

-On the other end of the home, we added ledge rocks for steppers, to allow an easier walking access to the Sherritts back yard, and again to help soften the drop in grade.

-To help add more depth to the home, the beds are deep and curving out into the lawn, jumping across the sidewalk and extending along the drive, again to add depth and to help create an entrance area walking to the front door.

-We also created a landscape bed around this large maple in front, which again adds depth to the landscape, and helps to tie in the tree with the rest of the plantings.  Below the tree, we have planted with hostas and liriope to serve as a ground cover and you’ll notice that the liriope is repeated in the foundation planting as well, which again, helps to tie the landscape beds together.

-The plants used are low maintenance plants, including oak leaf hydrangeas, boxwood, serviceberry, liriope, sedum, and easy to care for carpet roses, to add some summer color.

-Areas were prepared for annual plantings for summer colors, and these petunias are definitely giving a show, and the 2 color pots by the front door add the colored icing on the cake, and help to invite you up the walk and to the front door.

The new landscaping certainly added value to this home, and the curb appeal…well, I think it’s the best looking landscape on the street!  If you’d like to see more of this project, from beginning to end, visit our website at www.wkrc.com .
