Winter King Hawthorn

( Crataegus viridis 'Winter King'  )

'Winter King' Hawthorn is multi-season ornamental tree. It is excellent for landscape use as a specimen, entranceway planting, group planting, or in raised planters. This tree is rounded and spreading with vase shaped branching and glossy green foliage. The showy silver-gray bark exfoliates with age. The 'Winter King' Hawthorn has white flowers in mid-spring and its bright red fruit lasts into the winter. It has a bronze, red and gold fall color.

The 'Winter King' Hawthorn will grow 25-35 feet in height with a spread of 20-25 feet and a medium growth habit. This tree prefers full sun to partial shade and moist, well-drained soil. However, it is tolerant of poor soil, drought and heat. There are a few thorns on this tree (much less than most Hawthorns) and should not be placed in the path of pedestrian traffic. Wildlife is attracted to the 'Winter King'.
