'Canada Red' and 'Shubert are both
cultivars of Prunus virginiana or Common Chokeberry. They
are both considered Canada Red Cherry trees. It is a hardy
pyramidal deciduous tree with foliage that emerges green but turns
reddish purple with age. It has clusters of white flowers in the
spring. The fruit are red at first but turn black with maturity.
In the fall it turns orange and red. The 'Canada Red' has a
slightly faster growth rate, a slightly straighter trunk and
slightly brighter red leaves.
The Canada Red Cherry will grow to a height of 25 feet with a
spread of 20 feet. It has an annual growth rate of 12-18 inches. |
