Poinsettia

 Euphorbia pulcherrima

The Poinsettia Plant, a holiday tradition, is actually a deciduous shrub of the Euphorbia family and a native to Mexico. In addition to the traditional Christmas red, Poinsettias are grown in a variety of colors, pinks, off-white, yellow and variegated, marbled and spotted also. The Poinsettia can be quite showy and full with bright green course leaves, impressive colorful bracts and small yellow flowers in the center. The plants can be kept alive year-round but they usually become leggy with time.

Poinsettias are very sensitive to temperature fluctuation and should be kept away from excessive heat or cold drafts. They prefer to be kept evenly moist and placed in a light area. Poinsettias are an instant holiday decoration.
