Variegated Maiden Grass

(Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus')

fall

Miscanthus sinensis 'Variegatus' is commonly called Variegated Maiden Grass. It is a perennial grass with gracefully arching leaves. Variegated Maiden Grass has broader leaves than Maiden Grass and its leaves are also white-striped or variegated. This grass may reach 7 feet tall and needs staking to remain erect. However, most people prefer its more natural look. Beautiful coppery-tan plumes stand above the foliage in the fall. 'Variegatus' like other varieties of Miscanthus is valued for it's four season interest.

Like Maiden Grass, it is best to select a sight for your Variegated Maiden Grass in full sun with average soil that is moist but well drained. Be sure to give plenty of room as mature clumps can be 6 feet or more across. Enjoy the plants through the winter and then cut the plants to the ground in the late winter to early spring. Variegated Maiden Grass looks wonderful in groups or masses.
