Lythrum is a sterile, non-seed producing
large and bushy perennial that is much better behaved, more
compact and easily contained in the garden than its roadside
relative. It can be used in borders, cutting, drying and natural
plantings.
Loosestrife, as Lythrum is commonly called, has long spires of
closely set, small flowers blooming from erect stems. The flowers,
ranging in color from pink to purple, bloom from mid-summer to
early fall. It is easy to grow, trouble-free, long-lived and can
withstand neglect. It grows in ordinary soil to a height of 1½ -
6 ft. It is also tolerant of wet
areas.
