The Japanese Maple is one of the finest exquisite
small trees for texture, form, foliage and fall color. Acer palmatum
'Bloodgood' holds the red-purple leaf color better than most other
cultivars of Japanese Maple. It is slow-growing and usually has a
round-headed form. The Bloodgood Japanese Maple is excellent used as a specimen or
accent plant. Actually the Japanese Maple's landscape uses are only
limited to the imagination of the gardener.
The reddish purple foliage often hides the clusters of red to purplish
inflorescences that bloom in late May or early June. The Bloodgood
Japanese Maple has excellent fall color which is best described as
fluorescent flaming red.
This tree can be planted in full sun to full shade. However, it usually
does best in partial sun to partial shade. It prefers rich, moist,
well-drained soil, but is moderately adaptable to more adverse
conditions. The Bloodgood Japanese Maple will slowly mature to a height
of 15-20 feet.
