Coreopsis is characterized by bright
daisy-like flowers. All varieties bloom constantly from summer to
frost, especially when the faded flowers are removed. The original
species are all native North American wildflowers. Coreopsis can
be used in borders or as filler plants, is a good perennial for
cutting and attracts butterflies.
Some varieties to look for are:
'Moonbeam' Lacy foliage topped by pale, lemon
yellow daisy, starry flowers. Remove old blooms or shear the
plants back after the first heavy bloom to keep them tidy and
blooming. Happiest in dry, sunny locations. Very drought tolerant.
Mounding. Height to 18"-24". A former Perennial Plant
of the Year.
'Rosea' Spreading thread-leaf form with delicate,
daisy-like rosy-pink, ¾" flowers with yellow centers.
Rounded form with delicate bright green foliage. The only
perennial coreopsis that loves moisture. Mounding. Vigorous and
spreading. Height to 12"-15". Width to
15"-18".
'Zagreb' Lacy fern-like foliage topped by
large, bright gold-yellow flowers. Likes dry, sunny locations.
Very drought tolerant. Upright and compact. Vigorous. Height to
12"-15". Width to 12"-18".
