The seed for the Natorp
Companies was planted many years ago in Europe when Mr. William A.
Natorp served his apprenticeship in the horticulture field. Bringing
this background to Cincinnati, and with the help of a small advertising
card displayed in the window of a florist's store in 1916, Mr. Natorp
ventured into the landscape business.
The need for more and better plants resulted in starting an eight-acre
nursery in 1920. Over the years, acreage has been added and presently
the company operates on 500 acres in Warren County. It's the largest in
the tri-state area, growing more than one million plants.
In 1947, Natorp's opened its first retail nursery store. Since then, the
retail stores have grown in number, and are conveniently located to
serve the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky area. Ninety percent
of the plants at the stores, including annuals and perennials, are grown
at our nursery.
The Natorp Landscape Division has become one of the largest in the
Midwest. It 's a full service landscape division with a history of
excellence in design, installation and maintenance for all your
landscape needs.
Merten, William's son, continued in his father's footsteps guiding the
company from 1955 to 1975. Merten continued as CEO until 1987. Since the company's inception, quality plants and professional service
have been our mission. This philosophy has proved successful in the past
and will continue to provide our building blocks for the future.
A Wholesale Nursery was added late in the 1980's to provide area hardy
quality plants for other landscapers and retailers.
In 1975, Merten's son, Ken accepted the leadership position. Ken
continues to serve as CEO of the Natorp Companies. From 1996 until 2002,
trusted friend and employee, John B. Schmidt, Jr. served as President.
In 2002, Ken's sons, Kyle and Craig accepted the leadership of the
family company. As the fourth generation to lead the companies, Kyle and
Craig are continuing the philosophy of providing quality
plants and professional service. |
